The China of yesterday and today, with its social and economic transformations and its many contradictions, is the subject of this exhibition, an unprecedented photographic project curated by internationally renowned photographer Martin Parr, promoted by Forte di Bard and the Magnum Photos Agency, on display in the Cantine of the Bard Fort.
From the creation of Magnum Photos in 1947 to the present day, many members and affiliates of the photo agency have travelled to and immortalised various parts of China. Within this vast and highly diverse range of photo features, those of Marc Riboud and Martin Parr, on whom the exhibition focuses, stand out. Both have travelled to China several times, immortalising the country’s social and economic transformations following the major political changes that have taken place there. The exhibition, including a total of over 70 photographs, also features a timeline and a historical map of the journeys made by the two photographers, enabling visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the historical and social context within which the photographs were taken.
