The Val d'Ayas
Val d'Ayas
Val d'Ayas
Do you want to discover the largest, sunniest and most beautiful valley on the Monte Rosa chain? Come and visit the Val d'Ayas!
In the heart of the Aosta Valley and kissed by the second highest chain of the Alps, the Val d'Ayas is a wide and verdant valley that rises from Verrés following the waters of the Evançon stream.
In summer a real open-air gym for day trips, hiking, mountain biking, trail running, climbing, mountaineering, yoga and wellness in addition to all the other outdoor activities that will be at your disposal.
In winter the Val d'Ayas becomes an international base for skiing, widening its horizons in hundreds of km of slopes through the Monterosa Ski area that will make you range up the glaciers of Monte Rosa to over 3200 meters above sea level to cross the borders of the Val d'Aosta Region to finish in Piedmont. Ski mountaineering, cross-country skiing, snowshoe trails, freeride with dedicated slopes, children’s snowpark, skating and Nordic walking: all you need to live an unforgettable snow holiday.
Monte Rosa remains the unspoilt and wild pearl that dominates the horizon north of the Val d'Ayas from its 4600 meters of height. A set of ridges and spikes that gives light and contrast to the pine forests and pastures below. It was Reinhold Messner who emphasized its uniqueness as the only massif of the Alps in which it seems to be in the Himalayas.
But the Val d'Ayas is not only Monte Rosa, it is also life, villages, festivals, gourmand and culture.
Marked as Kramer Thal in the ancient maps of Valais merchants of 1500, the Val d'Ayas has an important past as a trade route between the Valais and the Po Valley. This period, which was marked by the settlement of the Walser population in the valleys south of the Monte Rosa chain, was also characterized by the local domination of the Challand family, to whom we owe the various medieval castles that can still be visited.
