Fixed-Rope Route Jose Angster Gressoney Saint Jean

By: Gressoney Monterosa

Ferrata Jose Angster

A beautiful itinerary to enjoy an excellent panorama over the village of Gressoney Saint Jean and Monte Rosa. With the "children's" variant, it is an excellent approach to the world of fixed-rope route.

Access: from the Gover lake, go up the trail to the base of the rock face.
Height difference in ascent: "Jose Angster" 270 metres. - "children's" 250 metres;
Time of ascent: 2 hours;
Difficulty: "Jose Angster" D, "Dei Bambini" F.

The Jose Angster fixed-rope route starts immediately steep in a section of spaced out steps. You pass a few rocky ledges, go under a steel cable and come to an oblique slope that crosses the entire wall where you meet the F ferrata (the easier one). You reach the ring where the cables of the two ferratas cross and continue up an area of vertical walls .

One heads to the right in the direction of the large roofs that dominate the central part of the wall. One reaches an edge and, having passed it, climbs along a spur to the left that has a high vertical wall.

Continue along the vertical until the area of the roofs is passed.

The last part of the fixed-rope route alternates between rocky sections and sections with tracks on less vertical terrain. You soon reach the top of the spur with a grassy ledge, a house and a flag.

Here, a fantastic panorama of the village of Saint Jean and the valley floor will be the reward for your achievement.

Descent:

To the left of the hut is a large boulder bearing the 4A trail sign, which descends into the woods in a small valley to the left. You meet the junction of the small trail coming from the exit of the Children's route and continue to descend into the forest until you reach the Queen's trail which descends towards Lake Gover.

Obligatory equipment:
Helmet, harness with ferrata kit including two lanyards with mounted dissipator, hiking boots.
