It’s not just skiing at 3000m! The meeting point between Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta offers a breathtaking view of Valsesia and the Gressoney valley which on clear days extends to the plain.
From Alagna Valsesia, you can access Passo dei Salati by first taking a cable car from the town of Alagna to Pianalunga and then a quick cable car to your destination. From Gressoney the route is the same, but it is served by two cable cars. A magnificent climb and an amazing view from the top! The south face of Monterosa and its peaks above 4.000 m seem very close. From this point, thanks to the ski lifts, it is also possible to travel from Alagna and Gressoney and vice versa without skis, to visit one of these two wonderful Walser villages.
There are two restaurants in this special meeting and border place, both with a large terrace, and the possibility of attending them is not reserved only for skiers. What could be better than a day spent with good friends or family over a good lunch or an aperitif while admiring this spectacular view?
Passo Dei Salati Bar and Restaurant is located at the arrival of the cableway that connects Passo dei Salati with Pianalunga, on the Valsesia side. It offers bar service, succulent sandwiches also to take away, lunches by reservation and homemade desserts. Everything to be consumed also in the wonderful and new terrace.
Stolemberg Restaurant is located a few steps from the ski lifts on the Gressoney ide. The kitchen offers traditional Valle d’Aosta and mountain specialties, but also snacks and aperitifs, always with a view!
Thus, this place will be able to give you both in summer and in winter a wonderful view and a very suggestive atmosphere that will surely be the setting for your souvenir photos!
In winter, the arrival of the lifts is an important starting point for skiing on the slopes of the Monterosa Ski area and for Freeride, of which Alagna is the European capital.
In summer, however, it is the starting point for mountaineers who, via the Indren cable car, want to reach the glacier to access the Mantova and Gnifetti refuges, or for an excursion to one of the 4000m of Monte Rosa. Punta Gnifetti (4554m) with Capanna Margherita, the highest refuge in Europe, is undoubtedly the most coveted peak, but the entire massif is spectacular! Its highest peak, Punta Dufour, with its 4634 meters, is the second highest mountain in the Alps. Just starting from Passo dei Salati there are also easy hikes, excellent for discovering the alpine environment, such as the Geological-Pedological Route of Cimalegna. It is spread over the Cimalegna Plateau, with stops at the Angelo Mosso Scientific Institute and the Col d’Olen Observatory, the famous research centers near Lake Bowditch.
