Lillianes is known as the Chestnut town, because it is the largest producer of this fruit in Valle d’Aosta. The locals’ main activity has always been of a farming-herding nature as well as growing rye and chestnuts, partly favoured and partly imposed by the morphological layout of the area. And even today, Lilianes still focuses on chestnuts and chestnut trees to make its name, and each year, at the end of October, the oldest chestnut festival in the Valle d’Aosta takes place. The entire day is dedicated to tasting this versatile autumnal fruit with lunch prepared with chestnuts.
