The Cima d'Ometto is a real watershed between the provinces of Vercelli and Biella. In fact, three ridges branch off from here: the north which divides the Mera basin from that of Meggiana, the east and the west which act as a watershed between Valsesia and Valle della Dolca.
The itinerary begins in Pila, 686m, near the bridge over the Sesia river. From here starts a comfortable mule track that crosses meadows and woods and surrounds the Alpe della Rivaccia. This point of the path can also be reached from the village of Scopello, following path no. 236a which starts in front of the Bar Capriccio, beyond the bridge over the Sesia river.
This path, which crosses the wood uphill, connects to our itinerary 236, which at an altitude of 1160m passes under the valley station of the Pian Rastò ski lift, 1230m, to continue on the edge of the pasture. You then cross the meadow of Alpe Ruscàa, 1370m to reach Alpe Ciotto di Sopra, 1385m. The path proceeds uphill in a southerly direction and enters the splendid pastures of Alpe di Mera at an altitude of 1503m.
From the arrival of the chairlift, the route turns towards the little church of the Madonna della Neve and quickly reaches Alpe Campo. From here it continues uphill among rhododendron bushes, up to the Colma dei Lavaggi, at an altitude of 1,720 metres. On the ridge it finally reaches the Cima d'Ometto, at an altitude of 1,911 metres. The pyramidal stone construction with an iron cross that you will find upon arrival, gives its name to the top.
Starting from Pila, the journey time is approximately 3 hours and 40 minutes. Starting from Mera instead, it is just over an hour.
