It is the first of the Walser settlements encountered going up the Lys Valley within which typically Franco-Provençal villages coexist on the side bordering Piedmont and villages of Walser origin. Cabins, farmhouses and green pastures indicate the activities that are still prevalent today.
The language spoken in this portion of the territory, Töitschu, is clearly of Germanic origin and derives from the influence of the inhabitants of Lower Valais who, for mainly commercial reasons, settled in the upper Lys Valley starting from the 12th century.
