The village of Mascognaz is one of the best known places in Val d'Ayas. Located at the mouth of the valley of the same name and at the foot of Punta Piure, an emblematic peak overlooking Champoluc-almost perpetually furrowed by a white vein of snow, Mascognaz is a little jewel made of stone and wood. Its marvelous rascards, clinging to each other as if in an embrace, date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, as does the Chapel of San Grato, the beautiful, richly frescoed little church that welcomes hikers ascending from Champoluc. It is an environment full of charm, with an enchanting atmosphere reminiscing of the past and old traditions.
